About me and my practice
My intention as a psychotherapist is to be a consistent, gentle, engaged observer of my clients' strengths, struggles and capacity for transformation in the present and over the long-haul.
I'm a social worker and psychotherapist who has been practicing since 2016. I live and work in Toronto/Tkaronto - the Dish with One Spoon Territory.
I have a background as a musician, editor, activist, group facilitator and peer counsellor.
Before beginning a private practice, I worked in counselling services at The 519 Community Centre, and was a social worker on an anti-poverty and harm reduction focused primary healthcare team at the Peterborough 360 Degree Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic.
My current focus is on providing long-term psychotherapy in the areas of trauma and attachment. I work with individuals age 18 and older. My practice is completely virtual, and is open to clients living anywhere in Ontario.
Wounding from psychological trauma and systemic oppression can show up in myriad ways: struggles with anxiety and depression, struggles with self-esteem, struggles in relationship, chronic stress, chronic pain, and more.
In the face of these struggles, I seek to support each client's movement toward their own sense of greater wholeness, integrity and wellbeing. I'm trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment, which are trauma-focused, mindfulness-based approaches to psychotherapy. These approaches are quite different than traditional talk therapy. They centre each client's present-moment experience and see the body as a key source of wisdom and of transformation.
I also aim to accompany clients in the spirit of solidarity: offering space to articulate how oppression and exploitation impact upon one's sense of self and sense of agency - and moving together toward increased connection to collective power and liberation. Principles and political frameworks that I aim to centre in my practice include anti-racism, abolition, harm reduction, decolonization and land back, disability justice, and sexual and gender liberation.
